President Nicolae Timofti today had meetings with President of the Romanian Senate Calin Popescu-Tariceanu and Deputy President of the Chamber of Deputies Florin Iordache.
During the meeting, President Timofti spoke out for boosting contacts between the parliaments and thanked for the support provided by the Romanian parliament to projects concerning Moldova.
At the same time, the head of state voiced hope that Moldova would find a way to avoid a new political crisis at the phase of electing the president in late next March, and would press ahead with the reforms on the European agenda.
Also, Nicolae Timofti said that Moldova would fulfill the conditions put by Romania for getting the first installment of a loan provided by the Romanian state. In this context, Timofti stressed that the issue of vulnerabilities from the financial and banking system would be tackled at the first parliament meeting of the spring session.
For his part, the president of the Romanian Senate said that Romania was interested in the stability and maintaining of the European course by Moldova.
Calin Popescu Tariceanu also said Moldova must recover the delays recorded in implementing the Association Agreement, in order to regain the support and trust of the development partners, International Monetary Fund and European Commission.
Deputy President of the Romanian Chamber of Deputies Florin Iordache assured Nicolae Timofti that any project regarding Moldova would be backed in the Romanian parliament.
The sides also brought for discussion projects on energy interconnection, on the common agenda, as well as possibility to launch a programme on twinning of settlements from the two banks of the Prut river.
