Presidency of the Republic of Moldova
The President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu met today with members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group Austria - Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus, led by the member of Parliament Helmut Brandstätter, who are on a working visit to Chisinau.
The discussion focused on the security and humanitarian situation in the region, as well as Moldova's Euro-integration efforts, in the context of its application for EU membership and the European Commission's favourable opinion on granting candidate status to our country. According to the MPs, the Parliament and the Government of Austria support Moldova's European path and are confident that the EU Member States will take a positive decision in this regard at the European Council on 23-24 June.
The Head of State thanked Austria for the development support it has given to our country over the years, for the aid during the Covid pandemic and, more recently, for the assistance in helping refugees from Ukraine. Members of the delegation appreciated the way Moldova managed the refugee influx, showing solidarity in a European spirit. They reiterated Austria's readiness to support the Republic of Moldova on the path of transformation, in particular in the fight against corruption and the reform of the judiciary, but also to continue the economic cooperation in the field of regional development.
