Bulgarian president to pay official visit to Moldova

President Nicolae Timofti had a bilateral meeting with his Bulgarian counterpart, Rosen Plevneliev, in Sofia, on 1 June, in the context of the summit of the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP).

The two presidents exchanged opinions about the Moldovan-Bulgarian cooperation and tackled the evolutions in the region.

Timofti appreciated the consistent and faithful support of Moldova’s European integration. The country further relies on Bulgaria’s practical support in implementing the provisions of the Association Agreement.

For his part, Plevneliev assured Timofti of Bulgaria’s openness for providing entire expertise in terms of European integration, including in priority sectors such as: the financial-banking sector.

In this context, the two heads of state encouraged the organization of a meeting at premiers' level of both states.

Also, Timofti invited Plevneliev to pay an official visit to Moldova in the nearest future.

The SEECP Summit ended with the adoption of a joint declaration, in which the member states reiterated their commitment to further boost cooperation in key-sectors for developing the SEECP member states, as the energy, transport, infrastructure sectors, creation of a favorable investment climate, environment protection.

At the same time, the heads of state and government opted for strengthening the dialogue at high level and maintaining European perspective for all participants as an essential priority of the process.

SEECP chairmanship was held by Bulgaria and was taken over by Croatia.
