Presidency of the Republic of Moldova
President Nicolae Timofti participated in South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) Summit in Bucharest, Romania, today.
Timofti delivered a speech during the session attended by heads of states and prime ministers, as well as diplomatic representatives from Romania, Albania, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Turkey, Greece, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia.
Timofti underlined the importance to consolidate the regional security in condition when the crisis in the south-east Europe neighbourhoods deepened. „I believe that, at present, more than ever it is important to have „a single voice”, by which to convey signals of solidarity to nations from the region and our wish to contribute to creating a common area of democracy and prosperity in the European spirit,” Timofti said.
Nicolae Timofti also spoke out for Moldova’s European integration. „The Moldova-European Union Association Agreement will be signed in Brussels, in two days. After the signing and ratification of this crucial and historic document by the Moldovan parliament, Moldova will enter a new development stage.
The Association Agreement with the European Union will lay the foundation of a solid, multidimensional modernisation and Europeanisation of Moldova. The gradual integration into the Union’s domestic market, according to the Association Agreement, will significantly enhance the attractiveness of the Moldovan economy, thus, creating premises for a sustainable economic growth.
Our next ambitious, yet achievable goal is that Moldova gets a clear prospect to join the European Union. This is an objective that will motivate and engage us more in concrete actions, in order to implement local reforms,” Timofti said.
Timofti also held unofficial talks with Romanian Traian Basescu and European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Stefan Fule, who attended the event.
Moldova’s delegation was made up of Secretary General of the president’s apparatus Ion Paduraru, presidential advisors, Deputy Foreign and European Integration Minister Tudor Ulianovschi and Moldovan Ambassador to Romania Iurie Renita.
Initiated by Bulgaria in 1996, the South-East European Cooperation Process’ goals are to boost good neighbourhood ties, strengthen regional security and back efforts of its members to integrate into the European structures.
