Lithuanian envoy ends diplomatic mission in Moldova

President Nicolae Timofti met Lithuanian Ambassador to Moldova Violeta Motulaite, at the end of her diplomatic mission, at the state residence today.

Timofti described the bilateral ties as excellent and thanked Mrs. Violeta Motulaite for her efforts to boost the Moldovan-Lithuanian cooperation in all sectors.

Timofti thanked for Lithuania’s firm support provided to Moldova in the European integration process. „The attitude of Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite, who, on different occasions, voiced solidarity with the Moldovan nation, is remarkable. We made sure that Lithuania is a reliable partner of Moldova on its European integration demarche,” Timofti said.

Violeta Motulaite congratulated Timofti on the signing of the Moldova-European Union Association Agreement in Brussels. Motulaite told the president that the Lithuanian parliament was to ratify this treaty as soon as possible. The Lithuanian parliament ratified the above-mentioned agreement today.

„The special relation between our countries may be explained by the fact that Moldova was the first state to recognise the Act on re-establishment of Lithuania’s independence in 1990. We want to convey to you our experience, which we gained in the European integration process, in order to facilitate your path,” Motulaite said.

The ambassador added that the signing of the Association Agreement with EU was an opportunity to modernise society. „The implementation of the EU standards in various areas and development of trade ties with Western partners will ensure a better living for the Moldovan citizens,” the official said.
