President Maia Sandu met with a group of parliamentarians from Lithuania

The head of state had a meeting today with a delegation led by Zygimantas Pavilionis, the head of the Parliamentary Committee for Foreign Affairs of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania. The discussion concerned bilateral cooperation and the process of our country's accession to the European Union. President Maia Sandu thanked for the support provided by Lithuania over time, including in obtaining the status of a candidate country for EU accession.

The interlocutors addressed the security risks in the region, triggered by Russia's war against Ukraine and its effects on the country's economy and energy sector. The president emphasized that the Chișinău authorities support entrepreneurs and create conditions for economic growth, which is also a guarantee for the consolidation of democracy in our country.

Lithuania is a reliable partner for Moldova. Through the Democracy Promotion and Development Cooperation Programme, it has financed 145 projects in Moldova. Our countries have excellent cooperation in defence, internal affairs and border management. As well, Lithuania supported the development of the institutional capacities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration.
