President Maia Sandu Participates in Event Dedicated to the Professional Day of the Tax Official

Today, marking 34 years since the founding of the State Fiscal Service (SFS) and the Professional Day of employees in the tax system, President Maia Sandu participated in the 2024 Honest Taxpayer Gala. The head of state congratulated the tax sector workers and the companies that have set an example through their tax compliance.

“Today's event is a good opportunity to reflect on the importance of the work of the State Fiscal Service employees, as well as on the relationship we need to build between state institutions and citizens, companies, and society. Unfortunately, we carry the burden of a past where this relationship was based on deep-rooted mistrust due to abusive and often corrupt practices by some officials, including those in leadership positions. This happened, we must acknowledge, also because some companies preferred to 'manage' or seek shortcuts,” the President mentioned in her speech.

At the 2024 Honest Taxpayer Gala, the best SFS employees and entrepreneurs who fulfill their tax obligations were awarded.

“Being an honest taxpayer means contributing to the modernization of the country and firmly anchoring us on the European path. We are very grateful to all the companies that understand that respect for the law and honesty are the cornerstones without which we cannot become a developed country. I appreciate the fact that you not only create jobs at home but also work transparently and honestly,” highlighted President Maia Sandu.

The head of state welcomed the fact that by the end of last year, 58% of SFS services had been digitized. According to the President, “these developments not only simplify interaction with taxpayers but will also bring more transparency to the relationship with the Service from both sides, and thus, more trust - a foundation for a united and strong society.”

President Maia Sandu expressed her expectation that SFS employees will transition to a work model based more on consultation and support for entrepreneurs, with abusive control becoming a thing of the past.
