President Maia Sandu discussed with Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission

The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, continued her visit to Brussels with a constructive discussion with Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, today. The meeting focused on the major impact the war in Ukraine has on the Republic of Moldova and the region as a whole.

The Head of State appreciated the openness of the European institutions to support Moldova in managing the crisis it faces. In this context, President Maia Sandu called for the abolition of export quotas for Moldovan products and asked support for the purchase of the fertilizers needed for agricultural work. She also mentioned that the Moldovan authorities are counting on a quicker transfer of the first tranche of the budgetary aid, which will support the government's efforts to recover the economy and ensure country's energy security.

"The European Union is our country's most important economic and development partner, and European integration is a strong stimulus for modernizing key sectors and improving the lives of our citizens," President Maia Sandu said at the end of the meeting with the EU Chief executive.
