President Maia Sandu met with US Secretary of State for Energy

President Maia Sandu met with Jennifer Granholm, US Secretary of State for Energy. The discussion focused on the severe energy crisis our country is going through.

The Head of State noted that Russia's war against Ukraine is having a major impact on our energy security, reflected in high energy prices and limited access to energy resources. At the same time, President Maia Sandu said that for Moldova, energy independence means preserving democracy and the country's membership in the free world, especially in the current context of war.

President Maia Sandu thanked the US for the aid of around 80 million dollars announced to help overcome the crisis. The Head of State also noted that we need the support of development partners to build the infrastructure connecting Moldova to European energy networks, to diversify energy sources and develop renewable energy, and to rethink the entire process of energy production, storage and consumption. Another strategic objective is to achieve carbon neutrality as soon as possible, which is beneficial for the environment and helps to ensure energy security.
