Moldovan president holds parliamentary consultations

President Nicolae Timofti today held consultations for the nomination of a candidate for the office of prime minister. 

Leaders of the Liberal Democratic Party, Democratic Party, Liberal Party, as well as representatives of the two parliamentary groups of unaffiliated MPs, European People's Party of Moldova and Social Democratic group, participated in the discussions.

Invitations were also sent to the Party of Socialists and Party of Communists to take part in consultations.

No candidate for the office of prime minister was proposed at the consultations. The parliamentary parties asked the head of state for additional time for the creation of a political coalition and identifying a common candidate for this position.

President Timofti demanded that the parties, in process of creating a parliamentary coalition, take into account the majority pro-European option of Moldova's citizens, potential candidates for the office of prime minister be selected so that they meet the integrity criteria and no corruption suspicions hang over them.

The head of state gave the lawmakers a one-week period to this end, after which the consultations are to be resumed.
