Turkish president to visit Chisinau

President Nicolae Timofti today met Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, on a visit to Moldova.

The officials described the bilateral ties as excellent and agreed on boosting the Moldovan-Turkish cooperation in all sectors.

The president highlighted the importance the Moldovan authorities paid to the development of trade exchanges with Turkey, which is among the main economic partners of Moldova. Timofti opted for turning to good account the potential of drawing investments of Turkish business people in various sectors of the country’s economy.

The sides agreed on setting a strategic partnership between Moldova and Turkey - a document likely to be signed during a visit to Chisinau by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in 2015.

Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said the Turkish authorities backed Moldova’s European integration steps.

“During the meetings I will hold in Comrat, I will convey to Gagauz friends and brothers the message to go together with all Moldovan citizens on European integration path,” the Turkish official told the president.

Timofti pointed out that, in Moldova, the Gagauz community benefitted from all legal conditions to develop and express ethnic, cultural and linguistic identity, according to European norms.

The two officials also discussed issues of ensuring the energy security of Moldova, as well as the developments in the Black Sea area.
