President Maia Sandu welcomes the establishment of the EU Support HUB for Internal Security and Border Management in Moldova

The President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu welcomed the signing of the agreement to establish a Justice and Home Affairs (JHA) Centre of the EU in Chisinau, underlining that it will ensure more stability and enhance security in the country and in the region.

"The status of EU candidate country bears its first fruits", the Head of State said in her message referring to the fact that today, at the EU JHA Council in Prague, the Minister of Internal Affairs Ana Revenco and the European Commissioner for Home Affairs Ilva Johansson signed the Agreement on the establishment of the JHA Centre in Chisinau. "This is the first time that our country participates in the JHA Council and, also, it is the first time that the EU opens, outside its borders, a support HUB for internal security and border management”, President Maia Sandu said.

According to the Head of State, the launching of the JHA Centre is an encouraging news, because it means more security and stability for us and our neighbours, but also more resilience against the threats posed by the war in Ukraine. "Thus, we contribute to strengthening and expanding the European area of security, which also includes our country, from now on”, President Maia Sandu emphasized.

The Head of State mentioned that today's decision is a proof of the European partners' trust in the Republic of Moldova. It is another concrete step on our European integration path. "More discussions and decisions in other sectors will follow, and will further strengthen our European course," President Maia Sandu said.
